CHENNAI: Rejecting Tasmac's appeal that removal of liquor
outlets dotting national and state highways in Tamil Nadu will pave way for
spurious liquor shops and will render thousands of bar employees jobless, the
Madras high court has, yet again, directed the state marketing corporation to
either close or shift out all such outlets on or before March 31.
The first bench comprising acting Chief Justice R K Agrawal
and Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar reiterated its earlier order to relocate the
retail liquor outlets and dismissed a fresh petition filed by Tasmac managing
director T Soundaiah. Tasmac had sought at least six months to complete
relocation/closure/shifting of at least 504 outlets located along national and
state highways.
