Apr. 3: A group of engineering students from
India claim to have invented an anti-rape underwear.
Manisha Mohan, a student at SRM University in Chennai, built
a prototype of the underwear with her two colleagues, Rimpi Tripathi and
Neeladri Basu Pal.
The protective underwear is purportedly built to deliver up
to 82 electric shocks of 3,800 kV to a would-be offender when pressure sensors
on the item detect an unwanted force, the New York Daily News reported.
The panties, named Society Harnessing Equipment (SHE), can
also alert police, or family or friends, through a built-in GPS system, to any
potential sexual offense which will allow the would-be victim to be easily
located.
The inventors are hoping to rollout the commercial
production of the panties later this month.
