New York: Facebook's new mobile software 'Home' that takes
over the homescreen of an Android phone, makes surfing the social network fast
and easy, but bogs down access to other apps that can be annoying for some
users, a report has said.
The new app exclusively for Android operating system makes
the smartphone and its other apps secondary to the social networking site.Facebook Home turns your phone's homescreen into a window to
your status updates, pictures, and other activities on the site by your friends.
According to the News York Daily News, this can be lovely if
your friends are talented photographers, or these uninvited guests can be
frustrating for people who would rather personalize their screens themselves.
The most innovative feature of the new software is the
"chat head," a circle with a friend's face or profile pic that you
can tap to keep instant-messaging your bud even when you're running other apps.
SMS is integrated into Facebook Messenger for Android, too,
so the chat heads do double-duty for text and Facebook messages.
You can position your chat head s anywhere on your screen,
and receive texts and IMs while simultaneously firing off emails, Googling or
listening to tunes.
The paper also pointed out that that this app, however, is an
extra step to reach all other non-Facebook apps on your phone.
Therefore, it takes longer to access your camera, email,
search engine and so forth. It's a process to do anything besides go on Facebook, the
paper said.
